Major Achievements

  • Allele-specific PCR for early diagnosis of benzimidazole resistance in Trichostrongylus colubriformis and Bunostomum trigonocephalum has been developed.
  • A PCR-RFLP technique has been standardized for identification of common strongyle nematodes of goats.
  • Phenotypic characterization of local goat (Chaugarkha) for registration as a new breed has been done and elite flock is being improved and maintained for distribution of superior germplasm to farmers.
  • Package of health practices has been developed for goats of Kumaon region and is being regularly implemented at field.
  • Strategic deworming practices for goats of Kumaon region have been developed and implemented in the field to minimize anthelmintic resistance.
  • Performance of different poultry breeds reared at high altitude has been evaluated, and it has been found that CARI Debendra is suitable for backyard rearing at hill region.
  • An aquaculture-based Integrated Farming System (IFS) model incorporating different components like poultry, fish, horticulture crops and field crops under multi-institutional project (DST-NMSHE) has been evaluated.
  • An area-specific mineral mixture for dairy cattle of Uttarakhand has been formulated and evaluated under field level.
  • Anti-proliferative activity of local herb, Hedychium spicatum (Vanhaldi) has been assessed in vitro and it has been found to be effective in early stage of tumors.
  • The effect of aqueous extract of fruit kernel of Xantholxylum armatum (local name Timur), a local herb of Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, has been validated for amelioration against cold stress in rat and goat model.
