The Division of Medicine came to existence in September 1993 following the bifurcation of the Division of Experimental Medicine and Surgery as an independent division. The Division of Medicine mandated to conduct the clinical research in the emerging areas of veterinary Medicine for better health and welfare of animals; provide quality education to undergraduate and post graduate students and scientific health care services for optimum livestock production and performance. Clinical research of this division is mainly focused to develop clinical diagnostic methods, safe and effective therapeutic and preventive technologies for animal use.
Besides, division organises regularly organizes capacity building programme in form of in-house hands on training of laboratory animal handling and herd health management for technical and support staff engaged in livestock farms, laboratory animal research facilities. The divison also organizes the other human resource development programmes such as winter and summer school, DST sponsored high end workshops and othe sponsored training programms time to time for young research scholars, academicians, and veterinarians across the country.
Division also contributes actively in various extension programmes of JD Extension Education, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), of the Institute and Institute Village Linkage Programme (IVLP), Ministerial Programs like Sansad Aadarsh Gram Yojna (SAGY) and Mera-Gaon-Mera-Gaurav (MGMG) program, Farmers First Programme etc. The division extends its expertise in scientific animal husbandry practices for optimum health and production through clinical camps to provide effective treatment to livestock at farmers’ door-step and also create awareness amongst the farmers for adoption of scientific animal husbandry practice. The division also provides 24X7 health coverage to livestocks at Referral Veterinary Polyclinic –TVCC complex.
The scientists of the division provides their expert opinion on various livetsock isuues of national important time to time, issues advisories to farmers, attend the disease outbreak as an when occur throghout country in association with CADRAD and also provides expert healthcare services to centre for wildlife at IVRI, Zoos, National Parks and Sanctuaries.
