Major Achievements

  • Tested 50 Batches of Bacterial/Viral Vaccines and Diagnostic Antigens for quality assurance and were found to be sterile, safe and potent. A total of 95 Bacterial/Viral cultures were supplied on demand in the year 2008-09.
  • Staphylococcal lytic phages encoding anti-staphylococcal peptidoglycan hydrolyzing enzymes were cloned and expressed native peptides were found to have a broad range of anti Staphylococcus aureus activity and are potential therapeutic candidates for mastitis therapy
  • One hundred fifty seven camels of different age and sex were tested with 0.1ml of PPDs AN 5 and 3/86 inoculated intradermally into the middle of neck 3-5cms apart. Skin thickness before and after injecting PPDs were recorded at 72hrs. Of 157 camels tested, 68 (43.31%) camels reacted positive. Twenty two blood samples were collected from camels reacting positive to the PPDs test. There was no amplification in DNA.
  • Expressed a truncated E2 protein of classical swine fever virus in Pichia pastoris (yeast) and work is underway towards development of Indirect ELISA using the recombinant E2 glycoprotein
  • Developed a cell culture vaccine for classical swine fever virus and completed the field trial and long term immunity and protection studies.
  • Standardized the testing protocols of the newly developed cell culture vaccine for classical swine fever.
