About Veterinary Medicine Division
Organized scientific research in veterinary medicine at IVRI is nearly three decades old when
necessity was felt to take up research pertaining to clinical and surgical management of complex
disease problems of livestock and to develop animal models for research in comparative medicine
and allied disciplines. This led to,the creation of Division of Experimental Medicine and Surgery
in 1975 with specialized laboratories and sections viz., laboratories of Therapeutic and Clinical
Medicine, Radiodiagnosis, Radiotherapy, Anesthesia and Forensic science, Archives of Medicine and
Surgery.
The ongoing scientific and technical advances in veterinary medicine and surgery during the past
more than two decades paved the way to bifurcate the Divisions of Experimental Medicine and
Surgery into two independent divisions. Thus the Division of Medicine was established in 1993
with the basic mandate to provide better health for improved livestock production through
evaluation and development of quick diagnostic methods, safe and effective remedial and preventive
measures against economically important diseases of livestock.
The Division takes active role in involved in various extension programmes of Krishi Vigyan Kendra
(KVK) of the Institute and Institute Village Linkage Programme (IVLP). Regular clinical camps are
also organized to provide effective treatment to livestock and to bring about awareness amongst
the farmers for better upkeep of their animals by adopting latest research findings.
