Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) celebrated its 83rd Foundation Day on 16th July, 2011 at A.P. Shinde Symposium Hall, NASC Complex, New Delhi. The ceremony was graced by Dr. Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India as Chief Guest, the day was also marked with the ICAR award ceremony, awards were distributed by Union Minister of State of Agriculture & Food Processing Industries, Shri Harish Rawat and Dr. Charan Das Mehant, in presence of Hon’ble Union Minister for Agriculture & Food Process Industries and President, ICAR Society, Shri Sharad Pawar; Secretary DARE & DG, ICAR, Dr. S. Ayyappan; Secretary, Department of Agriculture & Cooperation, P.K. Basu; Chairperson, PPVFRA, Dr. P.L. Gautam; Secretary, ICAR, Shri Rajiv Mehrishi.

Out of the 97 Institutes and 51 State Agricultural Universities of ICAR, Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Izatnagar has left its distinguished mark by getting 10 ICAR awards out of 22 categories instituted by ICAR, breaking its own previous records. IVRI has been bestowed with a prestigous “Rajrishi Tandon Rajbhasha Puraskar-2010” and “Ganesh Shankar Vidhyarthi Hindi Krishi Patrika Puraskar-2010”. Director cum Vice-chancellor, Prof. M.C. Sharma received both these awards.

On this occasion, IVRI Scientists and students have been conferred with prestigious ICAR Awards. Dr. (Mrs.) Rupasi Tiwari, Officer-in-charge, ATIC and Sr. Scientist, Extension Education received “Swami Sahajanand Saraswati Outstanding Extension Scientist Award-2010” for developing a software “Livestock and Poultry Disease Information System” consisting of 450 pages containing 78 diseases and 9 packages of practices in English as well as in Hindi, dealing with frequently asked questions in veterinary and animal sciences. Dr. B.H. Manjunatha Patel and Dr. Akila Natrajan received “Jawaharlal Nehru Award for P.G. Outstanding Doctoral Thesis research in Agricultural and Allied Sciences-2010”. Dr. R.K. Singh (former Head, Virology Division and station in-charge, IVRI, Mukteswar) received “Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Award” for outstanding research in Agricultural Sciences-2010. Dr. D.N. Kamra, Head cum Director, CAFT in Animal Nutrition and Dr. Mahesh Chandra, Head, Division of Extension Education have received “Bharat Ratna Dr. C. Subramaniam Award for outstanding teachers 2010”. Dr. Kusmakar Sharma (Former, Head, Animal Nutrition Division), Drs. Ashok Pattnaik and Narayan Dutta have received “Hari Om Ashram Trust award”.

Dr. S. Ayyapan, Director General and Secretary DARE, ICAR, has complemented Prof. M.C. Sharma, Director cum Vice-Chancellor, IVRI and his scientists, he further extended his good wishes for their future research.
